INTRODUCTION

I was  born in Osaka, Japan and raised in Michigan.   I moved to Minnesota  in 1983 to study with the late Zen teacher, Dainin Katagiri Roshi.
I  make functional pottery.   My work is influenced by traditional Chinese, Korean, and Japanese ceramics, especially everyday pots , that were sometimes chosen for tea ceremony.  I moved to Mashiko, Japan in 1999 to study pottery with National Living Treasure, Tatsuzo Shimaoka.  After completing a 3 year apprenticeship in 2003, I built a wood fired kiln and set up a studio and worked as a studio potter in Mashiko.  I moved back to Minneapolis in 2007 and currently work in my studio at home. I fire in gas reduction, soda and woodfire.  I also do raku and am exploring slipware.
